Abstract

Recently there has been growing interest in protein dynamics.1 Much of our understanding of this phenomenon has come from molecular dynamics simulations of peptides2a and proteins2b. A typical computer simulation takes steps of ca. 10-14 sec out to 10-10 sec.2 It is thus of great interest to study the structural fluctuations of proteins and peptides on the ps time scale. In this work we discuss the application of two laser techniques, ps time resolved CARS (Coherent anti-Stokes Raman Scattering) and ps time resolved infrared (IR) spectroscopy to these problems.
