Abstract

Principles of the degenerate four wave mixing and the pump-probe method using broad-band width incoherent light to measure the ultrashort phase relaxation time (T2) and energy relaxation time (T1) is reviewed. A more recent analytic theory of the degenerate four-wave mixing to measure T2 is also given for the incident light having any kind of statistical properties in the case where T1 >> T2.
