Abstract

We have generated stable pulses less than 200 fs around 780 nm from a cw passively mode-locked Ti:Al2O3 laser with a prism-pair dispersion compensator inside the cavity. The pulse shaping mechanism mainly originates from the combined actions of self-phase modulation (SPM) and group velocity dispersion (GVD) or soliton-like pulse formation.
