Abstract

The precise measurement of the dynamics of the Kerr-like non-linearity is an important issue since it affects the propagation of intense laser beams in transparent media. Besides the instantaneous electronic response, many materials exhibit a delayed response due to the nuclear motion. This may lead to very complex situations which often cannot be described by a single exponential decay law for the induced non-linearity.
