Femtosecond photophysics of the DNA bases in water

Abstract

Excited state absorption of the DNA nucleosides in aqueous solution is reported for the first time. Femtosecond transient absorption measurements show clearly that the S1 states of the bases undergo internal conversion to the ground electronic state in 300-700 fs.
