Abstract

Sub-two-cycle optical pulses with bandwidths in excess of 400 nm have been generated directly from a Ti:sapphire laser. Prospects for pulse generation towards the single-cycle regime using double-chirped mirror pairs covering one ocatve in bandwidth are discussed.
