Absolute displacement interferometry of ultrafast laser-produced plasma expansion

Abstract

Microscopic interferometric measurement of plasma expansion and surface motion during the laser-heating period of a metal target using a single ultrafast pump pulse is reported. A spatial resolution of approximately a few nanometers is achieved.
