Generation of Coherent Zone Boundary Phonons by Impulsive Excitation of Molecules

Abstract

Coherent zone boundary phonons in rare gas solids are observed in ultrafast pump-probe spectroscopy of molecular dopants. The excitation is impulsive during the pump pulse and phonons are decoupled from the molecular vibrations.
