A Nanometer-sized Femtosecond Electron Source at 80 MHz Repetition Rate

Abstract

We observe multiphoton electron emission from ultrasharp metallic tips illuminated with 7-fs-light pulses. Local field enhancement confines this emission to the tip apex, demonstrating the potential of this source for ultrafast electron imaging with nanometer-resolution.
