Memory and Nanostructure Formation in the Intense Field Ionization of Fused Silica

Abstract

We propose that memory in ionization and local field effects form self-organized nanostructures when ultrashort laser pulses are focused inside glass. Reduction in ionization threshold constitutes such a memory and is evidenced through transmission measurements.
