Distortion of ultrashort pulses caused by aberrations

Abstract

The effect of the primary wave aberrations (spherical aberration, astigmatism and coma) on ultrashort pulses is studied by the Nijboer-Zemike theory. The results of the geometrical and the wave optical treatments are compared.
