Detecting the Influence of Ions on Protein Hydration Dynamics with Site-Specific 2D-IR

Abstract

A strong vibrational probe bound to the surface of the model protein lysozyme reveals ion-specific modulation of the local hydration dynamics. Explicit water and ion simulations reveal strong cation association with a nearby charged side-chain.
