Abstract
Due to the difficulty of performing complicated tasks such as reading, the low vision population is at a significant disadvantage in relation to the normally-sighted population. The resolution of tiny newsprint letters as well as the coordinated eye movements that are required for reading may be beyond the abilities of an individual with vision problems. And, although CCTV magnification equipment has been useful for thousands, the equipment is very expensive and holds the added disadvantage of trapping the user to a particular site. We measured reading speeds and other subjective responses under a variety of conditions that addressed these issues.
