Abstract

In contrast to the trial case lenses of a trial frame or a phoropter, eyeglass lenses in wear have to provide the patient with the prescribed diopter values for sufficiently large fields of view. Traditional spherical or toric prescription (Rx) surfaces cannot always meet this demand, particularly in the case of progressive addition lenses (PALs). The following paper will show the benefits of aspherical or atoric Rx surfaces for PALs with regard to optical and cosmetic features.
