Abstract

The amount of Seidel aberrations, point spread and optical transfer functions can be computed from the wavefront aberration. In the case of the eye, the wave aberration is a complete descriptor of the ocular optics and a useful function in ophthalmic and intraocular lenses design. The possible use of adaptive optics techniques in the eye is also increasing the current interest in detecting the ocular wave aberration. Different methods have been previously used to determine the ocular wave aberration (see reference 1 for a review); among others the aberroscope (2), the Hartmann-Shack sensor (3) or computations from retinal images (4).
