Abstract
Automated perimetry is a standard clinical tool for evaluating visual loss due to glaucoma, yet histological studies of donor eyes from patients with glaucoma have shown that 20% - 40% of retinal ganglion cells in a given retinal region may die before a relative scotoma appears1. This finding has lead to a number of proposals for alternative stimulus configurations, with the goal of tapping ganglion cell mosaics in a more efficient manner. Alternative stimuli used in a range of laboratories include short-wavelength automated perimetry (SWAP)2,3, flicker perimetry4,5, and red-on-white perimetry6.
