Abstract

Since experiments performed over 25 years ago (Brindley & Lewin, 1962; Dobelle et al., 1978) it has been known that patients stimulated subcranially by small electrical currents over the visual cortex will perceive small blobs of light, phosphenes, and that it is possible to present multiple phosphenes by stimulating several electrodes simultaneously.
