A Compact Description of the Eye’s Monochromatic Aberrations in a Large Population

Abstract

The wave aberration for a 5.7 mm pupil was measured in a large population of human eyes using a Hartmann-Shack wavefront sensor. A principal components analysis was applied to this wave aberration data and the resulting principal components provided a slightly more compact description of our population data than Zemike modes. In addition, many aberrations in the left eye were found to be significantly correlated with their counterparts in the right eye.
