Abstract

The successes with long-term and routine implantation of cochlear prostheses1, and the demonstration that stimulation of the retina in individuals blind from retinal degenerations can yield reliable phosphene maps,2 have in recent years stimulated the development of early prototypes for a visual prosthesis based on stimulation of secondary retinal neurons.
