Abstract

Error-free spectral encoding, 40-km transmission, and decoding of a 10 Gbit/s, femtosecond return-to-zero (RZ) signal are successfully demonstrated using a high resolution arrayed-waveguide grating (AWG) and a phase filter with the function of maximum length sequence. The multiplexed encoded signals are also successfully decoded separately using the AWG decoder.
