Tight Control of Light Beams in Photonic Crystals with Spatially-Variant Unit Cells

Abstract

Spatially-variant photonic crystals can be used to direct light through tight turns, with turning radii as small as Rbend ~ 20 μm, whereas waveguides having similar Rbend exhibit high loss.
