Temperature and pressure effects on pressure-scanned etalons and gratings

Abstract

Various factors affecting the performance of pressure-scanned etalon and grating spectrophotometers are examined. The mechanical properties of the etalon plate, etalon spacer, and grating substrate materials are sometimes important, as is the temperature dependence of the spring constant for the etalon holder springs. The advantage to be gained from invar construction is usually negligible for a properly designed etalon holder.
