Abstract
For holographic data storage a phase mask, which distributes the light evenly within the minimum recording area, plays an important role. A new type of phase plate making use of grating modulation is proposed and analyzed in this paper with some experimental results. Several advantages of the proposed method over the conventional phase mask are (1) the capability of direct data input by amplitude control of a grating forming each data spot, (2) easy and precise control of a phase for each data spot, and (3) independence of wavelength used in the recording process.
