Abstract

A model detection system designed for ballistic range use is described in which a fast lens and photomultiplier detect the light reflected and/or refracted by the model as it passes through an incident light beam. The system is capable of detecting transparent as well as opaque models of various compositions with diameters as small as 1/32 in. (0.70 mm) moving with speeds up to 30,000 ft/sec (9.144 m/sec) under atmospheric or vacuum conditions.
