Abstract
In producing large glass blanks for bubble chamber windows and other applications, the thickness and, therefore, size and weight can be materially reduced by increasing the strength characteristics through tempering. The resulting adverse optical effects are discussed, and quantitative measurements of these are given to ascertain whether or not they are tolerable.
