Speckle pattern correlations with double-beam and polychromatic illumination

Abstract

The operator description of speckle patterns is extended for analysis of patterns produced by polychromatic illumination or other methods of illumination with two uncorrelated beams. Special emphasis is put on Gaussian beam illumination and the expressions obtained under various simplifying assumptions neatly explain experimental observations published in the recent literature. The results also indicate methods for the measurement of surface roughness and object motion.
