Abstract
The effect of variation of thicknesses, separations, and curvatures on the image quality of a five-element 100-mm f/1.9 35-mm cinematograph projector objective has been studied with a view to arriving at tolerance criteria on these parameters. It has been found that larger tolerances up to 0.07 mm on lens thicknesses can be permitted if the axial length of the lens system is maintained close to its specified value by adjusting the lens separations. The tolerances on curvatures have to be kept better than 0.1%.
