Abstract

The geometrical optics analysis of unstable resonators with nonuniform magnification is extended to include simple saturable gain with nonuniform profiles. A solution is obtained for the magnification function required for a uniform intensity profile with nonuniform gain. Also, the intensity profile for an arbitrary magnification function is derived. In the limit of zero losses, the output power seems to be a function of the output area alone, independent of the particular magnification function.
