Abstract
A new type of magnetooptical reading head is studied, in which the output signal is magnetooptically produced from the head pole edge vertically positioned on the magnetic recording media. The calculations suggest that this reading head, which has a reproducibility of more than 3000-bits/mm recording density, is realizable. Moreover, reading experiments using both model reading heads and a conventional magnetic tape support the validity of the calculations.
