Conversion of a Double-Beam Infrared Spectrometer to Grating Operation

Abstract

A 150-groove per millimeter grating was installed in a Baird Model B infrared spectrophotometer to provide improved resolution in the 4000 to 1000 cm−1 region. Grating orders are separated by means of a small prism monochromator installed after the exit slit of the converted grating monochromator; and modifications were made in the slit, wavelength drive, and recording systems to provide a maximum of flexibility in the operation of the instrument over narrow wavelength intervals
