Atmospheric Turbulence and Interferometric Spectroscopy

Abstract

Electronic techniques for interpreting interferograms in interference spectroscopy are well known. It is shown that atmospheric turbulence can have an effect on the interferogram and its interpretation. This is accomplished mathematically by allowing the transmission of the atmosphere to vary as a function of time. It is this time variation that causes ambiguity in the determination of the intensity of radiation at a particular wavelength.
