Abstract

A novel and simple optical vernier filter is proposed. It comprises two optical fiber ring resonators in tandem, each connected to a single-mode 3 × 3 planar fiber coupler. The vernier operation increases the effective free spectral range of the device significantly. This device can be used as a filter and wavelength-division demultiplexer.
