Abstract

A particular type of antenna is described (diffraction reflector) which is constituted by a diffraction grating ruled on the surface of a reflector antenna. Depending on the shape of the reflecting surface and on the periodicity of the grating, different types of diffraction reflectors with different properties can be obtained. Devices of particular interest for the applications are the multifrequency diffraction reflectors, which operate at different frequencies for different scanning angles. Multifrequency antennas can be corrected for two arbitrary directions and two corresponding wavelengths. The positions of the feeders may or may not coincide. At different directions and wavelengths there appear some aberrations which, however, turn out to be negligible in most cases up to large values of the scanning angle.
