Abstract
In [Appl. Opt. 56, 7079 (2017) [CrossRef] ], a phase-unwrapping algorithm has been reported that is based on the transport of intensity (TIE) equation. Section 3 of that manuscript presented one way to derive an analytical expression for the axial intensity derivative using the paraxial angular spectrum (AS) method. In the recent comment by Yoneda et al. [Appl. Opt. 60, 7500 (2021) [CrossRef] ], the authors misunderstand the utility of the angular spectrum method and conclude that the corresponding derivation is ambiguous. In this response, we take the opportunity to correct a typo that clarifies the calculation of the axial derivative of the intensity.
