Regional Focus Issue of Applied Optics

Optics and Photonics in Sydney

Submission Opens: 1 September 2023

Submission Deadline: 1 December 2023

The city of Sydney has a vibrant optics and photonics scene: it has five universities, as well as national laboratories and private industry, with many working in optics and photonics applications. The scope of research is very broad, encompassing astrophotonics, brain/computer interfaces, Brillouin microscopy and other applications of Brillouin scattering, fiber sensors, high-power lasers, integrated photonics, microwave photonics, optical signal processing photonic sensing, spectroscopy, telecommunications, THz radiation, and more. In recent years, the program has been recognized globally for achievements in education and research, particularly within the topics of terahertz, optical communications, and free-form optics. The purpose of this regional focus issue is to provide a glimpse into the depth and breadth of innovative research within the Sydney optics and photonics community.

All submissions need to present original, previously unpublished work and will be subject to the normal standards and peer review processes of the journal. The standard Applied Optics Publication Charges will apply to all published articles. Please prepare manuscripts according to the author instructions for submission to Applied Optics and submit through Optica Publishing Group's Prism submission system, specifying from the drop-down menu that the manuscript is for the feature issue on Optics and Photonics in Sydney.
