Abstract
Raman spectra have been observed for several simple systems as powders in the solid state. The (measured) intensities of the Raman bands appear to be functions which are dependent upon the concentration and the particle size of the Raman scattering material. A significant effect on the Raman intensity was noted as a result of the "effective absorptivity" of the material, defined as the combined effect of absorbance and the scattering of the material Sample thickness and materials of high, low and intermediate effective absorptivity are considered to demonstrate their effects on the Raman intensities.
