Abstract

Implants are widely employed in the animal health industry to deliver pharmaceuticals over an extended period of time. Currently available implants employ one of several growth promotants which have been approved for food animals by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The remainder of the implant is composed of the necessary excipients for binding, strength, and sustained release.
