Abstract
Two kidney stones of the cystine type (cystinuria stone) were examined by Raman scattering technique by focusing the green laser (514.5 nm) directly on the stones. The scattered Raman shift was examined and compared with that of standard compound, cystine. Almost identical spectra were obtained for the stones and cystine. The most important identification was based on the S-S stretching vibrational band at 498 cm−1. The present investigation indicates that Raman spectroscopy is a simple, rapid, and reliable analytical tool for identifying a cystinuria stone.
