Abstract
Dye lasers pumped by an XeCl excimer laser were used to excite metal atoms in the inductively coupled plasma (ICP) for single- and double-resonance fluorescence spectrometry. The detection limits (3σ) obtained with the single-resonance approach for Ag(I), Au(I), Co(I), Ni(I), Pb(I), Pd(I), Pt(I), and Sc(II) were 0.8, 4.2, 15, 3, 5, 0.7, 3.9, 3.3, and 0.2 ng/mL respectively; and with the double-resonance approach were 1.7, 6.0, 530, 5, 170, 8, 45, 29, and 13 ng/mL, respectively. Silver and lead were determined in an unalloyed copper standard reference material (#498) by both approaches, and excellent agreement with the true values was found.
