Abstract

A Turbo Basic® program has been developed to enable an IBM XT-compatible computer to control a Digikrom 480 monochromator (CVI Laser Corporation, Albuquerque, NM) though an RS-232 interface. The program allows the user to display the status of the monochromator, adjust the slit widths, and control the stepping motor. Data are collected from the photomultiplier tube for time scans and wavelength scans through an ADAC 5000 series analog-to-digital converter (Woburn, MA), but the program may be adapted to other data acquisition systems. Finally, the program enables the user to save, load, list, smooth, or compact the data, display the data as a graph, and integrate peaks. The program can be run from within Turbo Basic® (V1.1) or as a stand-alone .EXE file. A complete listing of the program is given in the Appendix.
