Abstract

In recent years much activity has centered around additives and innoculants for ferrous materials. (See footnote). In particular, the activity has centered around rare earths. This particular additive presents a difficult and time-consuming analysis to the chemist. Furthermore, recent progress in the production of nodular or ductile iron has shown that it can be produced by addition of several innoculants either singly or in combination. So it becomes important to the metallurgist to discover in some particular iron of unknown source, which additive or additives were used in its production.
