Author Position and Order
The criteria used to determine the order in which authors are listed on a manuscript may vary among scientific disciplines and should be determined collectively by the authors in advance of submission. Some examples of common ways to determine author order include the following:
- Reflective of contributions
- Alphabetical
- Student first if based on dissertation
- Senior researcher or principal investigator last
- Independent of rank or status
