Feature Issue of Biomedical Optics Express

Bio-optics Design and Applications 2023

Submission Opens:1 July 2023

Submission Deadline: 1 September 2023

Biomedical Optics Express welcomes submissions to a feature issue in conjunction with the Bio-optics Design and Applications (BODA) topical meeting being held on 24-27 April 2023 as part of Optica’s Biophotonics Congress in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Whereas meeting participants are particularly encouraged to submit their work, this feature issue is open to all contributions in related areas.

This feature issue will cover all aspects of development and applications of biomedical optical technologies for research and clinical applications. Significant advances in the development of optical techniques have led to an ever-increasing role of optics in the study of and treatment of various problems in the life sciences ranging from molecular level investigations to clinical treatment of patients. This feature issue will focus on the design, fabrication, instrumentation and application of biomedical optical technologies for life science and will attract contributions by researchers and engineers from academia and industry. Papers will highlight advances in optical design, instrumentation development, clinical systems, as well as signal and image processing. These advances have enabled new studies and insights not possible a few years ago.

Topics to be covered include, but are not limited to:

  • Biomedical Optical Imaging Technologies
  • Design and Fabrication of Biomedical Optical Devices
  • Visual Optics, Eye Imaging and Sensing
  • Biochip and Optofluidics
  • Clinical Systems and Applications
  • Nanophotonics for Biomedicine
  • Novel Imaging Technologies
  • AI and Optical Design
  • Signal and Image Processing For Biomedical Optics

All submissions need to present original, previously unpublished work and will be subject to the normal standards and peer review processes of the journal. The standard Biomedical Optics Express Article Processing Charges will apply to all published articles. To be eligible for publication, an expanded conference paper needs to add value to the original conference proceedings and the conference paper number must be included in a cover letter or as a note in the submission form. Please see Optica Publishing Group's guidelines on expanded conference papers for details.

Please prepare manuscripts according to the author instructions for submission to Biomedical Optics Express and submit through the Prism submission system, specifying from the drop-down menu that the manuscript is for the feature issue on Bio-optics Design and Applications 2023.
