Launched in 1973 and jointly sponsored by OSA, SPIE and IEEE Photonics, the meeting was discontinued in 2012. ODS covered the status, advances, and future directions in the field of optical data storage. Latter meetings focused on the technologies for the fourth generation systems: holographic, multidimensional, near field, super resolution and hybrid recording.
