Abstract

In this paper, we present an autostereoscopic display system with wide-dynamic-range view zone, high brightness and switchable 2D/3D. For this purpose, we propose a novel directional backlight system inspired by an optical splitter. Combined with eye tracking technique and LED-lit matrix, we expand the viewing zone and achieve 2D/3D switchable properties. And the design of direct illumination-type LED backlight improves the brightness significantly. The mathematical analysis and logic principle of the system is provided in this paper. And also, we build an autostereoscopic display prototype by the directional backlight system, and demonstrate experimentally that our system gives the viewer freedom both of viewing position and viewing environment with images of high quality.
