Abstract
A line-by-line addressing technique that is based on wavelets is proposed
to obtain gray shades in root-mean-square responding matrix displays. A large
number of gray shades can be displayed with a smaller number of voltages (simple
drivers) as compared with amplitude modulation and a smaller number of time
intervals as compared with the frame modulation. The technique is demonstrated
by displaying 128 gray shades in a liquid crystal display.
