Abstract
A single-cell-gap transflective display using a blue-phase liquid crystal
(BP-LC) is proposed. In order to balance the optical phase retardation between
transmissive (T) and reflective (R) regions, in-plane protrusion electrodes are
formed in both T and R regions on the bottom substrate, and only in the T region on
the top substrate. The device exhibits well-matched voltage dependent transmittance
and reflectance curves, a low operating voltage, and a wide viewing angle.
