Differential Detection with Polymer-Based Etalon Modulators

Abstract

Differential detection of modulation from polymeric-spacer reflection etalons can provide enhanced detectability for the small modulation efficiencies of these devices. Thus, imaging arrays of modulator pairs onto arrays of detector pairs can provide highly parallel optical interconnects for very large scale integrated (VLSI) circuits. We demonstrate the effectiveness of this technique using a discrete pair of photodiodes.
