Abstract
The design, fabrication, and performance of reflection-type
multiplexers and demultiplexers in the silicon-on-insulator material
system is discussed. These devices provide a more compact alternative to
arrayed waveguide grating filters in planar technologies. Their
suitability for application to both dense wavelength-division multiplexing
and coarse wavelength-division multiplexing optical communication systems
is considered.
