Abstract

Feature Issue on Optical Performance Monitoring (OPM). A methodology that allows us to characterize the main performance parameters of high-rate (up to 40 Gbit/s) systems based on slow, bit-rate-independent sampling is presented taking into consideration all the information present in the histogram. The theory and validating simulation and experimental results are presented, showing that this technique is suitable for future transparent optical networks.
